Laganas, situated on the southwest coast of Zakynthos, is the largest tourist resort of the island and the most popular point of amusement and entertainment. It offers a multitude of choices in hotels, apartments, restaurants, taverns, bars, clubs and shops, convenient stores, frequent buses for the town of Zakynthos, taxis and many car and bike rental shops. The beach, is the largest of the island. It is a sandy beach, 9 kilometres long, with warm and clear waters, ideal for children and the elderly, and the waters are shallow. The nightlife of Lagana is very popular within and outside of Zakynthos after the countless bars located on the main road, offer visitors the opportunity to entertainment until the early morning hours! Parts of the region, that you have to visit, is the Sarakina, the islet of Ag.Sosti and of course, Marathonisi, which can be visited either alone, or by renting a small boat, or organized, by participating in one of the many excursions departing on this beautiful island throughout the day. Argasi, is only 4 kilometers from the town of Zakynthos.
It is built along a beautiful coast and is the closest to the capital of the island tourist destination.
In almost all the area, there are shops, bar, restaurants and cafes, while there is an abundance of hotels, studios, apartments and bungalows.
There is a frequent bus service for the city of Zakynthos and several companies renting cars, jeeps, motorcycles and bicycles as well as a taxi station, located on the main road of Argasi. Furthermore, the region is particularly popular to the Greeks, as 3 of the bigest Clubs that most of the Greeks visit are located there. At a distance of 7 km south of the capital of the island, is beautiful Kalamaki.A huge beach, golden sand and crystal clear waters are just a few of the areas' features.
Kalamaki is very popular, as it offers a beautiful, quiet seaside environment, with a wide variety of hotels, studios, apartments and bungalows.
There are several shops, bars and restaurants, mainly in the center, road and transportation towards the town of Zakynthos is regular. For those who do not wish to use buses, there are several Taxi and rental shops to use.
The beach of Kalamaki, is an emanation of Laganas Bay and is widely known as a breeding area for marine turtle caretta caretta.
During July and August the female turtles, come ashore to lay their eggs in the beach. Motor boats are banned from this beach, as well as your stay at sea during the night. During the day, however, there are many boats with glass floor so you can see the turtles swiming under. Along the coast there are frequent connections with boats, to visit remote beaches or go to the beautiful Marathonisi. Alykes (salt deposits) is located 18 kilometers northwest of Zakynthos.
The region got its name from the salt marshes and the work carried out there, which supplied the entire island with salt.
It is one of the most popular resorts on the island with a beautiful sandy beach, which attracts many tourists during the summer.
Along the beach and the nearby roads you will find many shops, where you can do shopping, have fun, and relax. You will also be able to visit several sites at short distances, as the monastery of the 16th century of Saint John the Baptist or the famous Shipwreck, Schinari and Blue Caves.
If again, you prefer to stay on the beach, you can walk along, reaching the village of Alykanas.
Alykes and Alykanas, offer a wide range of choices in hotels, studios and apartments, in crowded places, but there are also more peaceful places offering services necessary for a comfortable and relaxing vacation. There are regular bus routes to the city of Zakynthos, as well as many rental car companies, jeep, machinery and motorcycles. The city of Zakynthos (capital of the island), is located at the foot of the hill of Bochali. It is a modern city built after the earthquake of 1953, and building/expansion continues until today! .
Alongside the modern buildings, coexist the imposing traditional buildings with arches and arched windows and picturesque squares, in an attempt to preserve as much as possible, the traditional style of the old city. The Solomos square , perhaps the most beautifull area in the city of Zakynthos, is surrounded by buildings of the National Bank of Post-Byzantium Museum and Public Library and hosts the statue of our national poet Dionysios Solomos. It is one of the most picturesque parts of the city, point of cultural, religious and social events and every visitor should pay a visit there. It is adjusted to the Republic Avenue, through cobbled roads , allowing young and old the enjoyment of a cosmopolitan town walk along with dozens of options for entertainment and meals, offering shops in the area, open throughout the day. About 100m from the Solomos square you will be reaching the square of Saint Mark, where the Solomos & Kalvos museum is situated, as well as the Catholic Church of San Marco. Saint Mark's square is the starting point of Alexander Roma road, which is the commercial center of the city and has a great variety of shops for all the needs of local people and visitors. Continuing the tour in our town, we suggest you visit the Bochali, with cobbled streets and flowered courtyards, to enjoy the beautiful, panoramic view of the city and relax in one of the cafes or restaurants in the region or the Venetian castle and the hill of Strani, where Dionysios Solomos wrote our National Anthem. Then, a walk towards Kryoneri, with the beautiful traditional taverns along the coastal road, or a stroll along the coastal K. Lomvardou, street, towards the church of San Dionisio, would certainly make you love this city. Vassilikos, one of the most beautiful areas of the island is a paradise of natural beauty and serenity. It combines the ideal green with numerous exquisite beaches, which are among the most beautiful in the Ionian Sea.
Although this is a quiet and comfortable tourist resort, there are several restaurants and bars, while famous are the beach bars in the region, which operate throughout day and occasionally organise parties and various other events. A great variety can be found accomodation wise, with numerous options available to the visitor. Someone can do watersports, or choose any of the bars to enjoy coffee or a drink, listening to music, or even rent a boat to explore further the beauties of the region. Tsilivi with a beautiful sandy beach and cosmopolitan life, is 4 km southwest of Zakynthos, near the village of Planos and is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
It belongs to the municipality Arkadion and is the most developed tourist area of the municipality, but also one of the most developed of the island in general.
The visitor has many options for accommodation, catering and entertainment, since there are hotels, apartments, shops, restaurants and bars, able to meet every taste and requirement, while it is particularly attractive for families who prefer the peace and rest on their holidays. The graphic Keri, is located 19 kilometres from the town of Zakynthos and is divided into two parts; The beautiful, traditional village situated on a green hill and the coastal part called Keri, which contains the Gulf of Keri, the beach and a small port. Keri has a widespread cultivation of olives and vineyards, as well as fisheries and livestock. The main feature of the village are the old stone houses and narrow alleys as well as the beautiful Lighthouse of Keri, located just outside the village on the edge of a cliff, around 300 meters above the sea. From this point, you can admire one of the most beautiful sunsets in Greece. The coastal part, the Lake of Keri, took its name from the lake that existed there previously and which has, for many years, drained. The port hosts small boats made nearby tourist tours, the boats of local fishermen and visitor boats. The beautiful island Marathonisi, which is exactly opposite Keri, beach Marathia with its crystal clear waters, Kamares, the Blue Caves and of course, Myzithres are points which you must visit to admire the indescribable natural beauty of the region. Keri offers a wide variety of accommodations, from simple apartments to 2-floor stone houses, which offer all the amenities. In the coastal zone, you can find small, traditional taverns to enjoy local cuisine, fresh fish and amazing local wine drums while in the same area, there are several cafes for recreation. The beach of Keri with small pebbles has deckchairs and umbrellas for rent and is ideal for young and old ages as the water is quite warm. On the beach, you can rent small boats, pedalos and canoe to explore the nearby beaches or participate in any organized marine tour. |
